When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted traditional workplaces, AFMC embraced a fully remote model to keep our team safe and connected. What began as a necessity revealed lasting benefits: significant cost savings and the ability to recruit top talent nationwide. By removing geographic barriers, we have built a stronger, more diverse team while reinvesting savings into strategic priorities that advance our mission.
AFMC has taken an important step forward in its journey toward greater social procurement by partnering with Buy Social Canada, an organization that connects us to a national network of social purpose businesses.
Through this partnership, AFMC embeds social impact into procurement practices—ensuring purchasing decisions generate not only economic value but also positive change in communities. By supporting social enterprises, we contribute to a more inclusive economy and advance our commitment to equity and social responsibility in academic medicine.
AFMC safeguards its data holdings through a comprehensive Privacy and Security Management Plan aligned with PIPEDA and best practices. We limit the collection of personal information to what is necessary for defined purposes and ensure consent-based use. Oversight by the Privacy and Security Review Committee and the Audit, Finance and Risk Management Committee ensures rigorous governance and compliance.
Strong administrative, physical, and technical safeguards—including encryption, secure storage, and mandatory privacy training—protect confidentiality and integrity. Through these measures, AFMC demonstrates responsible stewardship of data and reinforces trust with partners and collaborators.
